          Meet Dr Yuxiu Connie Xia

Dr Yuxiu Connie Xia is a registered acupuncturist and herbalist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She is an accredited member of the Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Society of Australia (CMASA) and the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Yunqi Societies (WFCMY).

Dr Xia is a caring and compassionate practitioner. She obtained her degree in Chinese Medicine (Double degrees in Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Applied Science) at RMIT University in Melbourne, and completed her internship at RMIT Health Clinic and Evergreen Chinese Medical Centre. During her study and advanced clinical training, Dr Xia gained valuable clinical experience in a variety of therapies of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) including herbal medicine prescriptions, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and Tuina.

Prior to pursuing her passion for TCM, Dr Xia completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2012. Her research focused on exploring the pathological changes of the airway in asthma patients, and investigating novel options for asthma treatment. She was subsequently granted the Peter Doherty Early Career Fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in 2012, and completed her post-doctorate fellowship training at the University of Melbourne on 2018. Her research was focused on novel therapies, as well as improving current management options for viral respiratory infections. Dr Xia was awarded multiple prizes and research grants, throughout her research years, and also published a number of research articles in high impact journals.

In 2019, Dr Xia has developed great passion and interest in learning TCM. While conducting a literature review, she came across several articles which demonstrated the efficacy of natural herbs in the treatment of certain respiratory diseases. Dr Xia attributes her early experiences in medical research for having laid the foundations for her knowledge and understanding of concepts in Western medicine, which she integrates with her extensive studies and clinical experience in TCM to provide more comprehensive and holistic patient care.

Of the various fields of TCM listed above, Dr Xia has a special interest in the areas of respiratory disorders, women’s health conditions, digestive disorders, pain management, anxiety/depression, and immunological diseases.  With a deep passion for TCM, as well as a desire to continuously expand her knowledge and therapeutic skills through ongoing study, Dr Xia is very keen to help patients to achieve their health goals with holistic approaches.
